Week 2: Preparing for SFG Level 1 Certification

Sunday, March 12th.  Week 2 complete.

If you haven’t read the first entry, Week 0, read that first.  SFG is Strong First Girevik Level 1 Certification.  That would be a Kettlebell Certification from the greatest Kettlebell organization in the world.

The back issue I mentioned last week was really more of a pelvis stability issue, according to my friend Terry, who’s a top notch physical therapist.  He taught me a couple of  stability exercises to help as part of my warmup.  This pain would show up at weird times.  Skiing, it would sometimes happen while sitting down on the chairlift.  Sometimes it would happen while getting into my car.  The motion of sitting would aggravate or stress the pelvis instability.  Racking a kettlebell from the ground would usually cause a jolt, so  I minimized this by lifting the bell with 2 hands and then swinging it up to the rack position from a standing position with my arm by my side.  No pain doing that.  Then I would not set the weight down between presses unless I was changing the weight.  Also still doing heavier, two handed  swings rather than one handed.  Once I resolve this issue, I can go back to one handed swings and do a full rack from the ground up.

Only other issue is a slight soreness/tenderness in my left elbow.  Just a small nagging issue, nothing that effects my workout.  Not getting worse or better, it’s just there.  Added wrist mobility exercises to my daily routine to  help this.

Inconsistent workouts this week due to this pelvic issue.

Tuesday, Presses – Week 3 Day 1 – 20 x 2,2 / 18×4,4

Friday, Presses – 18 x 4,3 / 20 x 3,3 / 18 x 4,3.  Swings 14 Min 32KG(T) – 140 total  swings

That’s it for the week.  Want to keep working out but I know I need to heal also.  This seemed to work, pain is SLOWLY decreasing in frequency.

Sleep was pretty good, getting close to 8 hours each night.  However, stress at work causing me some restlessness and wakeups.

Had my last broomball game on last Sunday.  Lost after 2 overtimes and a shootout.  Sigh.  Maybe next year.  At least the team we lost to went on to win the league. We gave them the toughest game of the year, so that’s encouraging.

See you next week – Stay Strong!
