Week 3: Preparing for SFG Level 1 Certification

Sunday, March 19th.  Week 3 complete.  480 Swings.

If you haven’t read the first entry, Week 0, read that first.  SFG is the Strong First Girevik Level 1 Certification.  That would be a Kettlebell Certification from the greatest Kettlebell organization in the world.

Very good week, followed the plan pretty closely and got in 480 swings total volume.  Still doing the modifications regarding racking the bell in the presses and two handed swings rather than one handed.  I’m using the heavier 32KG bell, which develops more power, but need to get back to one handed swings.  That works the core and stability better and most importantly, that’s what I’m going to be tested on!

Had a massage last week and Ila recommended a chiropractor in South Hadley.  I’ve scheduled the appointment, just to make sure it’s not a structural/adjustment issue or something serious.  Haven’t been to a chiropractor in years but they can be very helpful.  Especially the ones that are less aggressive with adjustments and work with some soft tissue work.  My foundation training has made my back strong and resilient but this issue is very different.  I also get a massage every month as a preventative.  It helps keep any soft tissue issues from causing future problems.  Highly recommended!

Tuesday – Presses – 18 x 4 / 20 x  3,3 / 18 x 4; Swings – 14 min 32KG(T) – 140 swings

Wednesday – Presses – 18 x 4 / 20 x 2,2

Thursday – Swings – 18 min 32KG(T) – 180 Swings

Friday – Presses – 18 x 3,3 / 22 x 1 / 20 x 2,2,2

Saturday – Swings – 16 min 32KG(T) – 160 Swings; Pullups – 1,2,3 1, Negative 1

Got my 3 press session and 3 swing sessions, right on track.  Added pullups as planned.  Pelvic pain was very minimal this week.  I tried a Turkish Getup and got a jolt.  Hold on those, only happens on the right side, not left.  I love TGU’s so it’s hard for me to skip these.  I’m starting to get behind in the TGU’s.  I should be doing the same weight with TGU as one handed swings but right now it’s 20KG v. 24KG.

I have to get this injury resolved or I’m going to have a tough time being ready for the cert.

See you next week – Stay Healthy!
